This electric heated shawl is a large, soft blanket with a zip and built-in heating wires. Plug it into a USB source, choose a heat setting with the button on the chest and feel the warmth in about 15 seconds. Wear it over your shoulders on the train, spread it over your lap in the car or tuck it round your feet when the floor is cold.

The construction
Double-spiral heating wire between two soft layers
The heat comes from carbon fibre wire laid in a double spiral, which the manufacturer states is waterproof and flame-retardant. The wires sit between a rib-knit outer layer and a soft fleece lining, keeping the warmth close to you. The outer layer is a jacquard knit in a cotton blend, and the lining is soft waffle fleece.

One blanket, several ways to use it on the move
- On the road: folded, it takes up little space in a bag, which makes it ideal for the car journey.
- Shawl: pull it over your shoulders and close the zip to keep it in place.
- Lap blanket: lay it over your knees and thighs in the car, at a desk or on the sofa.
- Foot warmer: wrap it around your feet when the floor is cold.
